Review taxes for tobacco farmers–Nkusa-Nkhoma

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Agnes Nkusa Nkhoma has called for the review of taxes and associated charges that farmers incur when they sell tobacco at the auction floors. 

Nkusa Nkhoma was speaking today after inspecting the Lilongwe tobacco auction floors to appreciate progress of the market. 

She noted that a significant amount of proceeds is taken away from farmers’ earnings after selling their tobacco hence rendering tobacco production less profitable.

 
Tobacco Commission chief executive officer Kayisi Sadala welcomed the suggestion by the deputy Minister saying the dedications are indeed too much hence the review is welcome. 

So far the highest price on the auction market was $1.91 and the lowest was $0.90 which is the minimum price. On the contract market the highest price was $2.40 and the lowest was the minimum price. 

The Lilongwe market is up to sell over six thousand bales today.
